Festus Iyorah

About

Journalist, producer, conservation communicator

Festus Iyorah is a Nigerian journalist, producer, conservation communicator and strategist based in Lagos. He is Nigeria Representative of Wild Africa, where he leads national public awareness campaigns, media partnerships and documentary production. Before joining Wild Africa in 2023 he was Nigeria Representative of WildAid, the international wildlife conservation organisation based in San Francisco.

At Wild Africa he designs multi-channel campaigns that combine traditional media, digital platforms and a pro bono network of celebrity ambassadors from entertainment and sport. An independent national survey of 1,000 respondents recorded 88% recognition of the campaigns and 39% behaviour change, and ambassador videos on deforestation and illegal bushmeat have drawn more than 500 million social media views.

He manages a network of more than 30 earned media partners across national television, radio, newspapers, billboards and digital platforms. He co-produced Dr Mark Animal Show, Nigeria’s first conservation TV show for children, now broadcast in seven African countries in three languages, produced and co-directed the Unsung Heroes documentary series, and writes and creatively directs Wild Africa’s celebrity-led public service announcements, from language and cultural detail to ambassador recruitment.

Festus trained as a reporter. His journalism on conflict, elections, technology, public health and faith has appeared in Al Jazeera, the Associated Press, The Guardian, Deutsche Welle, Mongabay, Rest of World and others, and he has since trained more than 70 journalists and radio hosts in environmental reporting.

He writes Signal, a biweekly communications intelligence newsletter for social impact in Africa. In 2026 he was nominated and selected by the U.S. Mission in Nigeria for the U.S. Department of State’s International Visitor Leadership Program on Combating Wildlife Trafficking and Promoting Conservation, which took him to Washington, D.C., Colorado, Oregon, Massachusetts and Wisconsin.
